There was a study done by Northeastern University and the University of Colorado that shows that people love their dogs more than they love other humans. Are you really surprised by this very well known fact??
I think it's easier to feel more empathy for pets, as well as children and infants, than it is for other humans. Pets, as well as children and infants, can't really take care of themselves on their own, they need us to care for them. As for adults, we can pretty much take care of ourselves. If we can't then we can always ask for help. Pets can't really ask for help.
I must say.. I am one of those people. I mean c'mon.. how can you not love your dog more than other people? I mean I like some people and tolerate others, but all in all my pup was my bestie who was always there. Sure he talked back at times, OK most of the time.. he always had to have the last word, and hogged the bed and tried to push me out of it, but it was all in good fun!
I have found that the older I get the more introverts I have become. I preferred to be alone with the pup. It was the lack of communication that was the perk for me.
