The Pack Horse Library

One thing I have been doing to pass my time during this quarantine is to catch up reading some books that I bought, but never got around to reading. So far I am currently reading a book called "The Heir of Ra" by Maciek Sasinowski. It's an adventure story with and Egyptain mythological twist to it. These days it's easy for us to log onto the internet and buy books that we want to read or we can get them for free on Kindle. Personally I'd rather read a physical book and get lost in the story than read one on a Kindle, but that's just me.

I was reading online about a pack horse library. I kid you not!! During the Great Depression there were actually women who rode on horseback delivering books to people. From 1935 to 1943 the Works Administration had librarians who delivered books to people who were in locations that were not easy to get to. These people had no access to the library so they delivered books to them!

Some of these absolutely amazing ladies even stayed and read some of the books to those they delivered to. This program was in 45 states and had 15,000 employees!

Right now the internet is our pack horse library. We order books from Amazon and other stores and there are places online where you can have stories read to you!
