Who was St. Patrick?

Even though he is associated with Ireland, St. Patrick was actually born in Britain. At 16 years old he, the son of a deacon, was kidnapped and sold into slavery.

He turned to his faith in the 5th century as he endured his servitude as a slave in Ireland. Six years later he was with his family after escaping via a ship back to Britain.

He was ordained in the priesthood and then went back to Ireland again only this time he went back as a Christian missionary.

Now legends say that once there he had banished all of the serpents, but today's scientists say that there were actually no snakes living on the island at that time when he supposedly did that.

Technically he's not a Saint, but he is regarded as a patron saint of Ireland, and he has been Ireland's patron saint since the 7th century.
