This is the one year that I haven't gotten and carved a Jack O Lantern for Halloween. You see it is around Halloween that the viel between the two worlds, the spirit world and ours, is at it's thinnest.
So communication with the spirits is highly encouraged at this time. Some believe that the carved faced of the Jack O Lantern ward off evil spirits from the house and those within. It is said that when you see the flame flickering, a spirit is near.
I will carve my pumpkin and after doing so I ask it to guard my home and those who dwell within it's walls from the negative entities that wander around looking for trouble.
