I can't wait to see the new Ariel!

There is a new live action "Little Mermaid" coming out and I seriously can't wait to see it next year when it comes out!

Some folks are up in their feelings because the new Ariel will be black. Ariel will be played by 22 year-old Halle Bailey, who is a singer and actress.

This is called Color Blind casting. Wikipedia defines it as "Color-blind casting, also referred to as non-traditional casting, integrated casting, or blind casting is the practice of casting without considering the actor's ethnicity, skin color, body shape, sex or gender."

Personally, as I said above, I can't wait! I'm sure she will do an amazing job as Ariel and she does have a beautiful singing voice.

She could pass off as the little mermaid easily. The only difference is her skin color, eye color and hair. This is why a lot of folks are upset about Halle being the live action Ariel. They feel that the actress who portrays her should be a red headed white girl with blue eyes.

Why do we have to stay in the comfort zone and fight against change? I am not one who likes change, but I am open to new things especially when it comes to movies. There have been actresses who have portrayed white characters before and there is nothing wrong with it.

Look at JK Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" play.

Hermione is white in the movies and in the books her skin color was never mentioned, but there was a black actress, Noma Dumezweni, who portrayed her and did a great job from what I have read and heard from folks who went to see the play.

JK and other movie cast members supported this actress portraying Hermoine and that right there says a lot.

It is literally not the end of the world and there are more important things to worry about than a black woman portraying Ariel in a "Little mermaid" live action movie.
